1- LESSONS FROM THE PANDEMIC
The COVID-19 pandemic had immediate, profound and global effects on the organisation of healthcare and supporting infrastructure. EuHPN explored the consequences and lessons in respect of Space, Staff, Systems and Supply Chains in the ‘3Rs’ (Relocate, Repurpose, Reorganise) webinars in 2020-21, drawing on the experiences of waves 1 and 2.
As the pandemic continues, and as data and analysis develop, there are many more lessons to learn, in relation to the capacity and capability of healthcare systems, planning and design of future and existing facilities, separation of clinical functions, measures for staff support and wellbeing, and many others.
Through member organisations and in concert with other networks, EuHPN will continue to contribute to growth and dissemination of knowledge in this important area. Specific topics to develop will include: the performance of existing facilities in relation to nosocomial infection; design for adaptability and flexibility; pathways and infrastructure for emergency, acute and planned care; space for staff wellbeing.
